Bolko von Roedern played many roles over the course of his life: son, brother, husband, father(in-law), friend, horseback-riding enthusiast, thoughtful student, fraternity brother, world adventurer, impassioned environmental activist, PV expert, NREL employee, member of Holy Cross, CRES board member, avid cyclist, mentor, colleague, and, most recently and to his great joy, grandfather. Even this fairly extensive list does not do justice to his sixty-six years. Always willing to help, Bolko endeared himself to many. His patience and calm and thoughtful demeanor allowed him to arbitrate many situations and find an agreeable solution for the majority. He was a wonderful husband and a fantastic father, who encouraged his daughters to find their passions and pursue them with arms wide open. He served as an inspiration to take calculated risks and to dare to live a good life. Although taken far too soon as the result of a degenerative disease, Bolko proved to the end that he handled tough situations with grace and fortitude. His passing on May 13th, 2017 has left large holes in the lives of his family, friends, and colleagues, who will continue to miss him terribly.
