Bob B. Stone, August 1, 1935 – December 4, 2012.
Bob B. Stone, age 77, of Harker Heights. Mr. Stone died peacefully Tuesday after a lengthy illness with his hands in the hands of those he loved. He was born August 1, 1935 in McGregor to William W. and Ollie Mae (Boren) Stone. He grew up in McGregor and began working at the age of nine to help support himself. As a youngster, he worked in a dry cleaners, golf course, movie theater, and as a bellhop plus many other odd jobs. He moved to Waco for his last two years of high school.
Following graduation he attended Baylor University where he majored in business. As an adult, he spent many years working as a buyer for Rocketdyne Corporation in McGregor. More recently, he worked as a self-taught engineer for Certified Water Services of Temple and Soules Engineering of Waco. He served in the Army National Guard for over twenty years. Mr. Stone married Mary Beth Ellis on June 19, 1953 in Waco. Several years after her death in 2000, he married Evelyn Cox Horton on November 8, 2003 in Belton. He was preceded in death by his brother Billy Stone. Bob was a self-educated, intelligent, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved playing bridge, Sodoku, joking and telling stories of his adventures.
Mr. Stone was a member of the Belton Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Cox Horton-Stone of Harker Heights; two daughters, Kimberly Varvel of Groesbeck and Kathy Winan of Arlington and also three grandchildren, Sean, Scott, and Collin Varvel. The family is grateful to the loving and professional care given to Bob by the staff of the Lighthouse Hospice in Temple.
