Blas Vazquez, age 83, died peacefully on May 13, 2017. Without hesitation, he followed his loving wife and friend of 61 years, Margarita Vazquez, who he laid to rest one week prior on May 6th. A native of Corozal, Puerto Rico, Blas emigrated with his new bride to Bethlehem, PA at the ripe age of 21 and was employed by Bethlehem Steel for 30+ years until his retirement. Bethlehem became his home where he raised his loving family. He was an active participant in the Latino community.
His passions, besides his devotion to his family and wife, included baseball, golf, gardening and life. He coached Little league teams for over 25+ years and impacted countless young boys’ lives. He continued to love baseball and the Phillies until his recent death.
Blas loved gardening, fishing, learning and was a self-taught handy man. Neighbors, friends and strangers were always given a helping hand. His compassion, generosity, sense of humor, kindness and zeal for life will be missed by all and treasured by those who knew him.
SURVIVORS: He is survived by his son, Joseph A. Vazquez and his wife, Belma and their two sons, Joe and his wife Holly and great granddaughter Riley and Tom and his wife Robin all of Bethlehem; his daughter Ana Vazquez-Morina and spouse, John Morina of Virginia Beach and their sons, Joseph and Luke and step-son David Novello and family; his daughter Sonia Vazquez of Bethlehem and her daughter, Tiffany and by his son, Frank Vazquez of Bethlehem and his daughter, Brittany Joseph and sons Blasé and Nick; siblings, William Vazquez and Magorie Rodriguez-Vazquez of Bethlehem and Praxedez Vazquez of Puerto Rico.
