On January 8, 2021, Christ’s faithful servant and our Dad, Pastor Billy Lee Jones Sr., was called home at the age of 88.
Our dad was faithful to God’s word and truly treated others as he wanted to be treated. Living a life of service to his Savior and family, he touched many on his journey.
He was born October 16th, 1932, in Roswell. He spent his early years living in Roswell and Tinnie. He accepted Jesus as his savior at the little church in Tinnie that would become a large part of his story. He joined the Navy and fought in the Korean war. After starting his family, he moved to California. During his time in California, God called him to the ministry.
In 1977 he married the true love of his life, Bonnie Covey, and their union lasted over 43 years. Together they settled in Tinnie and served the folks in the Hondo Valley until he retired. His last years were spent in Roswell close to family.
No brief history could do justice to the substance of his life. His impact could fill volumes. He was a man who strove to do what was right, being an example to his family. He was in God’s word daily up to the very end. His memory and dry wit never left him. He loved to sing, loved the Cowboys and Red Sox and told some really corny jokes.
He loved Bonnie so very much. Theirs was a special marriage, the kind that most hope for but few obtain. Always known as Bill and Bonnie, you couldn’t think of one without the other.
He was a fun grandpa who gave the gift of fond memories to all his grandchildren. To his kids, he was Dad.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Bonnie; sons Butch (Bill Jr), Mark and his wife, Terrie; grandchildren Michael, Jeffery, Christopher, Corey, Aaron, Matthew and Hannah; and 11 great-grandchildren. His extended family of Dot Fuqua and numerous nieces and nephews are left to cherish his memory.
He would want all to know the savior he served so faithfully, in whose arms he is safely in now.
Revelations 14:13: Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their works follow them.”
