Billy Joe Wingo – What a great western name.

Bill and his sister, Chris rode horseback to a one-room schoolhouse where just one teacher taught the 3 R’s, crafts, sewing, and woodworking. Bill’s brother, Ransie, and their families lived on the same ranch land and shared the care of cattle while both working full time at Lowry Air Force Base in Pueblo Depot in maintenance shops: repairing everything from mowers to tanks. Bill retired with 40 years of maintaining these shops for the government. This was after serving in the US Army during the Korean War in communications.

Bill’s brother, Ransie and he worked together building dams on different properties and received awards for their soil conservation efforts. While Bill’s father, William received little education, he could add board feet in his head for his lumber yard business.

Bill thoroughly enjoyed vehicles and could tell you the year, make, and model of cars and trucks as they passed by.

Bill is survived by his wife, Cathleen Wingo; nephew, Clarence Chess; and grandniece, Vanessa Porter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Ruth Christy Wingo; sister, Christine Marie Chess; brother, Ransie Wingo; former wife, Lorella (West) Wingo; and niece, Demoris Ann Chess.
