Billy James Garrett, 76, Anderson, died April 7, 2003 at St. Johns Health System, Anderson Indiana after a brief illness. He was born May 8, 1926 in Burkesville, Kentucky, and resided in Anderson. He was an Anderson resident since moving here from Kentucky in 1952. He retired in 1987 from Delco Remy Division of General Motors Plant #10 after 35 years of employment. He had been a school teacher in Kentucky prior to moving to Anderson in 1952. He was a substitute teacher for the Anderson Community School System for many years and was a greeter at the front door of the Robert D. Loose Funeral Home for the past 13 years. He was a 1944 graduate of Marrowbone High School in Marrowbone, Kentucky. He graduated from Lindsy Wilson Methodist College in Columbia, Kentucky in 1946. He served his country in the US Army as a corporal and a medical technician during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Parkview Wesleyan Church in Chesterfield. He was also a member of the UAW Local #662. He was an avid gardener and was the neighborhood caretaker. He is survived by his wife of 49 years whom he married April 17, 1953 in Daleville, Christine Garmon Garrett; two daughters, Nancy Charlene & husband Gary McEwen of Anderson and Margaret Gayle & husband Vance Kline of Greenfield; four grandchildren, Kristofer Ryan & wife Holly Miller of Ashland, Wisconsin, Nicholas Alan & wife Courtney Miller of Anderson, April Joy McEwen & fiance Todd Crowell & his son Austin Crowell of Ingalls and Hope Christine & husband John Wilson of Richfield, Minnesota; one great grandson, Zackary Logan Miller of Ashland, Wisconsin; one sister, Juanita Waters of Horse Cave, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, Willie ”Bill” & Bertha Branham Garrett and three brothers, Eddie Garrett, Morrison Garrett and J.B. Garrett.
