Billy F. Beck, age 84 of Fairmount, passed away on June 14, 2014 at Community Hospital North, Indianapolis.
Billy was born in Van Buren, Indiana on September 11, 1929 to the late William F. Beck and the late Charlene McCracken. Living in Fairmount most of his life, Bill graduated from Fairmount High School in 1947.Shortly thereafter he married the love of his life, Roma Dickerson who survives, on May 21, 1948 in Fowlerton. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for four years and retired as a supervisor from General Motors in 1988 after twenty-nine years of service. He was a Palomino horse enthusiast and also enjoyed pitching horse shoes. Always active in his community, Bill started the first Little League team in Fairmount, the Fairmount News Team. He was also the owner of Main Street Merchandise and he and his wife enjoyed collecting antiques. Bill enjoyed hunting with his coon hounds and loved sports, especially basketball and baseball.
In addition to his wife of sixty-six years, Roma, he is survived by one son, Mike (Cathy) Beck of Chiefland, FL; two daughters, Pamela (Rock) Hutchason of St. Petersburg, FL and Julia (Rick) Clevenger of Fairmount; two brothers, George (Leah) Beck of Alexandria and Richard Pete (Jill) Beck of Florida/Michigan; three sisters, Mary Lynn (Norman) Jones of Carmel, Sarah Kay (Jerry) Cole of Fairmount and Jayne Alice Skinner of Fairmount; five grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Spilman of Belleair, FL, Brandon (Rosa) Beck of Jacksonville, FL, Brooke (Dusty) Smith of Chiefland, FL, Brett (Lauren) Hamilton of Orlando, FL and Casey (Shawn) Clevenger of Fulton, MO; eight great-grandchildren, Clayton and Emma Spilman of Belleair, FL; Reese, Braxton and Bauer Solowski and Beckham Smith of Chiefland, FL; Baylor Hamilton of Orlando, FL; and one on the way.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Jack Skinner.
