Billy E. Chandler, age 84, passed away at his home June 5, 2020 in Caldwell, Idaho.
Billy was born in Lovelady, Texas. His parents were William Chandler and Myrtle Chandler. He was a 1st Class Airman with the United States Air Force from 1954-1957 in Mountain Home. Billy married Ute Friedley Aug 19, 1985 in Boise, Idaho. Billy had two sons, Ronnie Chandler (deceased), Billy Chandler, and daughter Tammy Chandler. He was employed with Mike’s Sheet Metal over 15 years, and recently by Brown Bus Co. in Nampa, Idaho for 16 years.
Billy’s passion was racing at Meridian Speedway. He started in 1960 and was loved by many. He was known as “Meridian’s Hometown Boy” and won numerous trophies over the years. As a driver on the school bus, he loved all the children and enjoyed seeing them daily. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, as well as taking trips to Jackson, WY for the fresh mountain air, abundant wildlife, and family outdoor fires.
Billy is survived by his wife Ute Chandler and step-children: Colette Palomba (of Meridian, ID), and AJ Friedley and Shotzy Friedley (both Boise, ID). He is known to all as “Opa” he was blessed with five grandchildren, Phabian Essink, Skyland Friedley, Gabrielle Spath, Cody Friedley, and Savannah Friedley, as well as seven wonderful great grandchildren. Billy was known for his great Southern charm, his wise words of wisdom, and his big Texas heart!
