Mr. Billy C. Whitley, age 85, of Moreland, finished his tour of duty in this life on March 13, 2016. He was born in Randolph County Alabama September 4, 1930, and was the son of the late Samuel Delbert Whitley, Sr., and Rebecca Frances Daniel Whitley.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Lucille Whitley Stephenson and his brother Cleveland Whitley. Billy was a man who set his ambitions for places other than the family farm and saw the United States Navy as a chance to broaden his horizons. He joined the Navy and for the next 36 years faithfully committed himself to that service. It was during this time that he married June Smith and they shared 63 years together. Billy was a man of many interests but was a wizard when creating anything made of wood. He spent many happy hours gardening. Always mindful of others, he enjoyed cooking for anybody or caring for anything with four legs. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved having one in his arms when they were around.
He is survived by his wife June Smith Whitley. His children are Billy Glenn (Linda) Whitley, Cheryl Whitley, and David G. (Cathy) Whitley. There are six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
His surviving siblings are Helen Spivey, Rachel Whitley, Kate Odom, and Sam Whitley, Jr.
