She was a graduate of Mississippi College where she earned a bachelor of science degree in education and also in social work. She then had worked twenty years as a caseworker in the states of Mississippi and Indiana. She also had taught kindergarten in Mississippi. Lastly she served as administrator of a 120 bed skilled nursing home.
