Bill “Scooter” Darrah, 85, passed away at the Legacy Lodge on Monday, November 4, 2019 in Chariton, Iowa. He was born June 6, 1934 to Glenn and Murine (Sullivan) Darrah in Chariton, Iowa. On November 24, 1954 he married his high-school sweetheart, Jo Ann Powell in Chariton.

 

He was preceded in death by his son, Cole Darrah; his parents; one brother, Bob Darrah; and one sister, Sally Howell.

 

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Jo; four of his children: Corey (Gayle) Darrah of Chariton, Darcy Darrah of Des Moines, Chad (Kim) Darrah of Indianola, and Dana Goldensoph of Chariton; eight grandchildren: Kelli Jo Spoon, Kateo Darrah, McKenzie and Kelsey DeVore, Logan and Melina Darrah, and Ali and Caci Goldensoph; two great-grandchildren: Adrian and Serenity Rochford; two siblings: sister, Kay Worden of Indianola and brother, Don “Butch”  (Janice) Darrah of Linville; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Scooter was a life-long resident of Chariton.  He graduated from Chariton High (class of 1952).  He attended barber school in Des Moines returning to barber with his father, Glenn, for 10 years, only taking a break to serve as an MP in the Korean War.  Always a businessman, he later co-owned Woodburn Furniture Mart and owned and operated Darrah Garbage Disposal for 57 years.
