William “Bill” Pitts, 75, of Des Moines, IA died at home with his family by his side on October 31, 2021.
Bill was born in Elmira, NY on April 22, 1946, to Charles and Katherine (Novakowski) Pitts. He graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1964 and entered the Air Force in 1966 where he served on active duty for four years then as a Reservist until 1972. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Outstanding Unit Award.
Bill worked as an office manager of Schulze and Burch Biscuit Company (Flavor Kist Cookies and Crackers) from 1969 to 1982 and went on to work as an Inventory Control Coordinator for KVI ( later Marsh McLennan) from 1985 until his retirement in 2011. Bill and Linda Lee Morgan were married on September 12, 1970, in Granite City, IL, and have made their home in Des Moines since 1975. Bill enjoyed working in his yard and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially around the Sunday dinner table.
Those left to cherish Bill’s memory include his wife of 51 years, Linda; two children, Carla (Floyd) Castle of Des Moines and William “Bill” (Amanda) Pitts of Maxwell; eight grandchildren, Kati, Abby, Vincent, and Anthony Castle and Christopher (fiancé, Riley Standing), Spencer, Ethan, and Savannah Pitts; and his brother, Jack (Cathy) Pitts.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Katherine Pitts; brother, Charles Pitts; and his aunt, Guinevere Pavulak.
