Beverly Ruth Thompson was born October 27, 1944, in Washington, DC. to George Thompson and Eutelia Anderson, both deceased.
Around the age of two, Beverly was adopted; with her sister Barbara-jean Thompson, who preceded her in death, by their late grandparents Maude and James Matthew Thompson.
Beverly accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior as a child. She was baptized and received the right hand of fellowship at Scotland AME Church, Potomac, MD where she was an active participant in church school and other activities. Beverly was raised in the Montgomery County area and graduated from High School in Bethesda, Maryland in 1963. She was one of the very first African American students to attend and graduate from Walter Johnson High School in the early 1960s.
Not long after graduating, Beverly married her high school sweetheart Henry J. Green, Jr. Though they later divorced, they maintained a cordial relationship and talked often in the interest of shared experiences and their children Terri (Darryl “Doc”) Watson and La’Tonya (Mark) Bryant. Beverly also leaves her son Franco (his long-term partner Mona) Harris to mourn her passing.
Over the years, Beverly acquired bonus children who she loved dearly. (Franco’s siblings) Michael Harris, LaShawn Harris, and Monica Echols. (Terri & La’Tonya’s siblings) Kevin Green and Kristen Patterson. Melanie and Harl Jr. (Harl Sr., deceased friend).
Grandchildren, (Terri’s children) Aaron Green, Darryl Green Sr., and Corey (Deja) Watson who are expecting Beverly’s tenth great grandchild. (La’Tonya’s children) Quiera (Orlando) Harris, Martez Bryant, Ayauna Bryant, and Toneah (FianceJoey Lanham) Bryant. (Franco’s children) JaVae Harris, Jessica Harris who is expecting Beverly’s ninth great grandchild Elijah, Kinaia Brown, and Ashley Scales.
Beverly peacefully transitioned to her eternal home on November 15, 2022.
Throughout the course of her life, Beverly made her home in Maryland, Chicago, South Carolina, and Washington DC before making Baltimore, MD her home in retirement.
Beverly’s primary profession was as a legal secretary with Roundtree, Knox, Hunter & Parker; Aspen Corporation, National Housing Partnership, and the National Senior Citizen’s Law Center. She was not afraid of hard work and though she was highly skilled, she also worked a variety of odd jobs to provide for her family. In her retirement, Beverly accepted the role of ordering groceries for residents at Wayland Senior Community where she lived.
Beverly enjoyed a good meal, driving, riding, and road trips with music. She would often bring snacks or a sandwich when her kids took her out. One of her favorites was- one slice of white bread with one slice of Oscar Mayer bologna and one huge slice of tomato. She would take out her open face sandwich and begin eating before even putting on her seatbelt. In her younger days, she envisioned being the pace car driver to help control the traffic on 1-49? during rush hour. In retirement, she drove her scooter like a roadrunner, in and through the streets of Baltimore and in the halls of her community which garnered her the nickname “Speedy.”
In retirement, Beverly enjoyed sewing quilts, crocheting, and watching old westerns.
Also mourning Beverly’s passing are, great-grandchildren Kamari Cotton, Dahjah’net Green, Diaeja Green, Jeremy Watson, Lindsey Watson, Avery Watson, Darryl (“Billy”) GreenJr, and Kaidyn Scales-Taylor; and bonus grandchildren and great grandchild. Her devoted niece Dr. Angela M-B Powell (Greg) and nephew Gregory Powell,Jr.; great Nephew D’jani Davis; aunt, Bernice Dove; as well as cousins, Patricia (Ronald) Whyte and Gwendetta Qoe) Mabry whom she shared close relationships; and her friend since childhood, Darlene Davis; dozens of cousins and a host of friends.
