On Wednesday, April 19, 2006, Betty Woodfall Dawson passed on. Betty was preceeded in death by her dear husband of 13 years, D. Clifton Dawson. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Bumgarner and Betty Brandenbug; her grandchildren, Scott and Neal Bumgarner and Kevin Korb; and her great-grandchildren, Kassidy and Kristopher Korb. Betty was preceeded in death by her dear sister, Mary Voit. Betty was born in Glen Burnie, MD where she resided for over 83 years. She was a 1937 graduate of Glen Burnie High School. Betty then attended Towson State Teacher’s College and Strayer’s Business College. She was a lifelong Communicant of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. She was the Altar Guild Directress for three years, after which she was an active member in altar work. Betty was a member of the Women’s Guild, served several terms on the Church Vestry. She taught Sunday School in the 1950’s and ’60’s. Betty was a treasurer of the Sunday School from 1950 to 1985. Betty was a member of the Glen Burnie Carnival Banking Committee for over 30 years, was a member of the North Arundel Hospital Society, the Anne Arundel Historical Society and the Glen Burnie Improvement Association. Betty’s family has a long history in Glen Burnie. Her father, Thomas, and her uncle, Edward Woodfall built many of the older buildings in Glen Burnie. These buildings include the Masonic Hall, First Avenue School, the Old Methodist Church, several of the houses on Central Avenue (between A&B streets), the original St. Albans Rectory and helped to build the St. Alban’s Church. Betty enjoyed many hobbies. She was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization, the Sisterhood, the Ki-Wives in the 50’s and 60’s and was a former member of the AARP. She was an avid rose gardener. She loved travelling, reading and crafts. Betty greatly enjoyed helping at church fairs and flea markets.
