Betty (Topa) Rinfret, 86, widow of Girard (Jerry) M. Rinfret, sadly passed away December 30, 2016 at Middlesex Memorial Hospital. Born in Burlington, Vermont on October 29, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Hilda (Ketcham) Topa. Betty was raised in Keene, New Hampshire and later settled in Connecticut, following her marriage in 1956. She was employed in Middletown for 33 years by Hartford National Bank which later became the Bank of America.
She enjoyed her career in the banking industry as she was a natural people-person and knew every customer by name. Betty was also an avid nature lover. She spent many weekends with her beloved husband Jerry at their summer home on the lake in Harrisville, New Hampshire. There they would while away the hours taking in the beauty of God’s creation. Betty knew every species of foliage, bird and animal, and marveled at each bear, moose or bobcat sighting, as if it were the first time. She also loved all sports, especially the lady Huskies and Red Sox. She was also known to follow the stock market quite regularly. But most of all she was a deeply devoted grandmother to her two grandchildren. Forever the helping hand and listening ear, her guidance, love and endless support will never be forgotten by those she loved and those who loved her. Her ability to be both Mom and best friend will be cherished, always, by her daughter. Betty is survived by her only child, Mary P. (Patty) Rinfret-Latham, her husband William (Mike) Latham and two grandchildren whom she adored immensely, Michael and Kelsey Latham; three siblings, John Topa and his wife, Marlene, of Keene, NH, Philip Topa and his wife, Nancy, of Glade Springs, VA, and Nancy Yew, of Guilford, VT. She was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Hulslander and brother, Norman Topa. Betty’s family wishes to express their thanks to all staff members at the Critical Care Unit and Hospice at Middlesex Memorial Hospital.
