Whittle, Betty Roberts, 83, of Apison, TN passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011, at a local hospital. Betty was born in Cairo, GA but moved to Chattanooga at a very young age. She graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1945. In September of 1945, she started working for South Central Bell Telephone Company, where she spent her entire career. Betty began as a long distance operator and worked in various departments before ending her career in 1982 as a dispatcher tracker for the plant department. Betty served as President of the Telephone Pioneers of America local chapter in 1980. In 1983 she held the same position with the retiree local chapter and served one term on the state committee.
