TorringtonBetty R. BementBetty Bement, died peacefully on August 31, 2016 just 18 days shy of her 87th birthday. She was born Betty Marion Riley in Hartford, CT on September 18, 1929 to Stanley William Riley and Cora Elizabeth Thompson Riley. She grew up in the Hartford area and spent summers on her grandparents’ farm in Harwinton. Betty spent her most rewarding working years providing meals and grandmotherly affection to the children at the Winsted Area Day Care Center, retiring in 1994. She was an active participant in several local organizations, recently having received her 65 year membership pin from the Winchester Center Grange. She was a Past Matron of Magnolia Chapter, OES, and a past Grand Officer for the state of CT. A loving and much loved wife, mother, and grandmother, she leaves her husband of 64 years, Joseph H. Bement, her daughters Laura, and her husband Albert Saldarini, and Sarah Bement and her partner Jeffrey Mengalillo. Betty was blessed with two wonderful grandchildren: Nicholas James Saldarini and Erin Kate Saldarini. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, most especially, Steven Riley and his wife Nancy, and Donna Desrochers and her husband David. Predeceased by her brothers Robert and Stanley, she is survived by her brother, John Riley and his wife Wilma.
