Betty Jane McCullough

Betty Jane McCullough, the daughter of Clarence Everett Blackman and Helen Leola Wood Blackman was born March 22, 1922 in Osceola, IA.

She graduated from Humeston High School in 1939 and attended American Institute of Business, where she received scholarships and honors for personality and congeniality. During her professional career, she worked for J,J, Kelly Securities Investment Company, Lakeshore Tire and Rubber Company, the Department of Social Welfare, and for the Iowa Insurance Commissioner. She also worked for Ralph Reeve’s Grocery Store and for the Humeston School while living in Humeston.

She married Arlie Milo McCullough on October 19th 1943. Six years her senior, he did not date other girls, but waited for her to grow up. They first met when Milo saw Betty playing with a kitten and they chatted. Betty and Milo enjoyed the “Big Bands” and dancing together. During their first years of marriage, with Milo being in the Navy, Betty had the opportunity to travel far from home. She was exposed to different cultures and situations in places such as San Diego, California.

After ten years of marriage, Betty and Milo were finally blessed with two daughters; Nancy Dawn and Julie Diane, who became their world, being much loved and long awaited.

Betty has written creative songs and slogans.

Betty died on December 10th 2013 at the Long House Care Center in Spencer, Iowa, going home to our Lord in victory after a six year battle with cancer.

Betty was preceded in death by a brother and a sister in infancy, her parents, her husband Milo and her brother Dean.

Survivors include her daughters: Nancy D. McCullough of Des Moines, IA and Julie D. McCullough of Spencer, IA; grandson: Devonshire McCullough Yaw of Boston, MA; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
