Betty Mae Johnson, 89, of rural Galesburg, died at 9:25 a.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center, Galesburg.

Betty was born on May 6, 1921 in Salem Iowa, the daughter of Samuel Herbert and Daisy Leona Howell Glendenning.  She married DuWayne Raymond Johnson on February 13, 1946, he preceded her on August 21, 1982.  Betty is survived by two sons, Terry L. (Pam) Johnson, Timm D. Johnson all of Galesburg; daughter Nancy (Darrell) Lovell of Galesburg; three brothers, Dr. Dale Glendenning of Mesa Arizona, Rev. Amos Glendenning of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Dr. Herbert Glendenning of Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters, Eunice Ruggles of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and Marilyn Schillerstrom; 4 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.  She was preceded by her parents, two sisters and one brother.

Prior to marriage Betty worked at Gale Products and Galesburg Cottage Hospital.  After her marriage she became a housewife on the farm.  She was a volunteer for the Galesburg Rescue Mission Auxiliary, where she received the volunteer of the year award in 1985, volunteered with the visually handicapped and regularly attended Bethel Baptist Church.  Betty enjoyed gardening, and going to backyard sales, auctions, and flea markets.  She was an outstanding cook, known for her excellent cakes.  Betty was a good Christian woman who was truly loving and generous.  She was a loyal wife, mother, and grandmother and she loved spending time with family.
