Betty L. Steglich was born to Oliver and Mildred Hutchings in Omaha, Nebraska on May 6, 1929, and died in Boise on August 5, 2017. Betty spent her youth in the Midwest and then in upstate New York, graduating from high school in Binghamton, NY. She obtained her teaching degree from State University of New York at Oswego, NY. Betty’s teaching career led to Taos, New Mexico, where she met Franklin A. Steglich, a machinist working at Los Alamos Laboratory. They were married on November 30, 1951. Karen was born the next year, and in 1953, they moved from New Mexico to join Oliver and Mildred in Boise, where Kristine, Charles and Kathryn were born. After Frank died in 1960, Betty taught music and 4th grade at Roosevelt Elementary School until 1990.

Betty loved literature, music, and the performing arts. She operated the St. Michael’s Cathedral Book Store and Parnassus Book Store and sang in the St Michael’s Choir.

She was also preceded in death by her son Charles.
