Betty Lou Johnson, 84 of Curlew died Sunday, February 14, 2016, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. Betty Lou Wermersen, the daughter of William and Ethel (Hiller) Wermersen, was born October 28, 1931, in Corwith, IA where she was raised and received her education. She was married to John Johnson and the couple farmed in the Mallard area and owned a bar in Mallard. She drove a school bus for many years in Mallard and cooked at the Palo Alto County Hospital until her retirement. Betty is survived by her nieces Roberta (Paul) Colsrud of Mallard, IA, Sheila (Gary) Anderson of Mallard, IA, Vicki (Bob) Schneider of Mallard and nephew Rick Wermersen of Mallard, IA. Betty was preceded in death by her brother Robert, parents, sister-in-law Ruth and her niece Deb Aldersen. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Mallard, the Curlew “coffee club” and the flower club in Mallard. She was an animal lover and loved to bird-watch. She also enjoyed crafts and was known to be a great cook, specializing in cinnamon rolls.
