Betty Lou (Hanawalt) Christy, 83, of Monroe died on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
Betty, the daughter of George and Neva (Meyer) Hanawalt, was born on May 29, 1939, in Colfax. She grew up in the rural Colfax and Mitchellville area. Betty was united in marriage with Wilbur Christy and then moved to West Des Moines. In 1979, they moved to Monroe. Betty worked for Mike at his bar and also helping as a nanny for his children. She had also worked as a donut maker at Casey’s.
Betty is survived by her children, John (Audrey) Christy of Newton and Colleen (Clayton) Hayes of Newton; grandchildren, Jon, Jessica, Jake, Daniel, Terry, Tara, Emily, Jaylee, Keegan, Sheena, John Jr., Hope, and Michael; her great-grandchildren, Hadley, Annabelle, Ethan, Grayson, Troy, Teal, and Kaesien; and her sister, Norma.
