Betty Gohn, 70, of Boise, passed away quietly in the early morning hours on Saturday, October 4, ending a two-year struggle with cancer.

Betty was born August 7, 1938, in Douglas, Wyoming, the second of four children to Floyd and Louise (Humphrey) Hogmire.  The family moved to the Caldwell area in July of 1947.  She attended schools in Caldwell.

Betty met Elwin Gohn while she was in high school.  The couple was married on August 1, 1958 in Portland, Oregon where they lived for a short time before moving back to the Caldwell area.  On January 7, 1964, they welcomed to the world their daughter Gaylene Ann and on February 9, 1965, they welcomed Patricia Louise.  They settled in Boise where they purchased their home in April of 1966.  They made this the home where their kids would grow up and family was always welcome.  Betty and Elwin shared many happy years there before his death in 1989.

Betty worked various jobs early in life which included JC Penney in downtown Boise, Treasure Valley Manor for 23 years, and after retirement, she worked seasonally at the Idaho State Tax Commission.

Betty enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and camping with friends and family.  Most of these trips also included cutting wood for the winter.  She also enjoyed riding the motorcycle with her husband.  The two of them participated in organized motorcycle rides through Idaho.  One of Betty’s favorite trips with Elwin took them through Washington, Oregon, California and Nevada.  Betty’s other hobbies included collecting small perfume bottle, ending with a collection of hundreds of bottles.  She also loved to sew and quilt, making many quilts for new babies in the family over the years.

Betty and her lifelong friends, Orvetta Godden, Francis and Roy Eskine, and Don and Elzana Hogmire had been meeting for lunches once a month for the last year.

Betty and Elwin took family vacations every year.  Some of these vacations were planned and others were just getting in the car and going, usually those trips were to see family in Washington and Oregon.  One of Betty’s goals was to take an Alaskan cruise which she accomplished in July of 1999.  Betty and Elwin took a trip to Virginia for their granddaughter, Angela’s fourth birthday.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her younger brother, Larry; and a son-in-law, Dennis.  She is survived by her older brother, Don and his wife, Elzana of Caldwell; younger brother, Everett, of Madras, Oregon; daughter, Gaylene Carstensen and her children, Angela and her husband, Kelly Hagans and a baby due in April, Charles Jones, currently serving in the U.S. Navy, TJay, Theodore and Denisha Carstensen all of Meridian; daughter, Patricia and her husband, Rodney Corn and Patricia’s son, Andrew Crisp, currently serving in the U.
