HEY Y’ALL,
It’s me, Betty Louise Vineyard Davenport, born in Helena, Arkansas on August 22, 1959.
Although I was not ready to leave, but as a faithful servant of God, I was more than willing to answer the call. I heard the Lord calling me from labor to reward. No more sorrow, no more crying, and no more pain, for the former things have passed away.
You probably didn’t know that I was the tenth child of thirteen born to John and Mary Vineyard. I was always inspired by my mother to always work hard, to be the greatest teacher, and most of all to be a person that showed compassion, love, and fearlessness.
In 1969, I moved to Kansas City, Missouri with my family. Let me tell you, my early education started at Mark Twain Elementary, and I was an outstanding member of the Pom Pom Squad and Secretary of the Business Literature Organization at South East High School. I attended Grambling State University for a brief semester and then attended Penn Valley Community College majoring in Business Administration.
My life career started at TWA as an Airline Attendant where I met my “Everything”, Ronald Davenport. He always said to me, “I was the one for him, and I was going to be his wife”.
He was the ideal man who had empathy and understanding of people, capable of flexible thinking and coming up with creative and effective solutions to problems; he was confident in himself and avoided prejudice and biases against other groups of people. He was all about fairness for all. My Ronald had style and most importantly loved me and his girls.
I spent over 30+ years at The Kroger Co.
My utmost joy was serving as a dedicated member at Greater St.
On various occasions, I had the opportunity to serve on the Auxiliary Board providing my expertise and creativity on holidays and special events.
I am preceded in death by my beloved husband of 38 years, Ronald Davenport, my parents John and Mary Vineyard, and my siblings, John Albert Vineyard, Dan Vineyard, Alma Vineyard, Maxine Patton, and Barbara Taylor, my mother-in-law Zenophia Beasley, and my in-laws Clarence Brooks, John Johnson and Joyce Beasley.
I leave behind a legacy through my two cherished daughters, Kirsten Davenport Norwood (Darius) and Kia Davenport. My siblings Geraldine Starks (Michael), Esther Henry, Joyce Hall, Al (Roxanne), Kelvin (Jennifer), Linda Vineyard Robinson (Louis), and Michael (Fannie), a devoted sister-in-law, Irish Johnson, Bestie, Priscilla (Joe) Bowens, Godfather, Bryant Clayton, Sr. and Godmother, Clydonna Surrett, Special Friend, Walter Goodloe. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
We all have a story to tell understanding there is no right or wrong way to tell your story; however,
it’s the “DASH” that tells your WHOLE story.
