Betty June Whitcomb, age 92, of Salem, died at 6:48 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Blossom Nursing and Rehab Center in Salem. She was born July 14, 1921 in Sebring, Ohio, daughter of the late George and Tillie (Haberland) Lucas. Betty was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1939 and a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Salem. She worked at the Lustigs Shoe Store and then for the Louis Tobin Detention Center, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Salem Elks Lodge #305 Ladies Auxiliary, Salem AMVETS Auxiliary, Salem Eagles #316, Italian-American Club and the Slovak Club. Her husband, Bruce Whitcomb, whom she married June 27, 1942, preceded her in death October 25, 1982. A brother, Alvin Lucas also preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce (Dennis) Bell of Lisbon, and Debbie (Randall) Erath of Salem; five grandchildren, Richard (Ingrid) Albanse, Anthony Albanse, Thomas (Erica) Albanse, Amie (Richard) Cochran and Brad Erath; seven great grandchildren, Nicholas, Madeleine, Henry, Evelyn and Elsie Albanse, and Abigail and Halle Cochran; a sister, Doris Gilliland of Alabama; a brother, Robert (Dorothy) Lucas of East Liverpool.
