Betty Jean Stalker of Peru went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, December 17, 2021 at St. Margaret’s Health, Peru.
Betty was born on July 2, 1929 at Peoples Hospital in Peru to William M. and Ellen Dixon (Coutts) Stalker. She graduated from LaSalle-Peru Township High School, Class of 1947. She then graduated from West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing in Oak Park and also from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.
Betty began her professional career working at the Chicago Maternity Center delivering babies in homes. After spending a year in Brazil working in an orphanage, she returned to Peru and was employed as a registered nurse at Peoples Hospital, now St. Margaret’s Health in Peru for 33 years.
Betty was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of LaSalle. She was active in many of the church’s organizations. She taught a ladies’ Bible class for 40 years and was an active member of the Ladies’ Mission Circle. Betty loved music and loved serving the Lord. She was a vocalist, played most brass instruments and directed the church choir for 25 years.
Survivors include a niece, Willa Morgan of Sandwich; a nephew, John (Barb) Stalker of Barnett, MO; several great-nieces and nephews, including Martin Rivera of Aurora and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George Warren Stalker, Russell Stalker and Eldred Stalker; four nieces, Lois Noonan, Adel Obman, Donna Pinkston and Carol Rivera and a nephew, Steve Stalker.
