Betty Jean Simms, born January 8, 1947 in Uniontown, PA departed this life on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. Betty fondly known as Betty Jean was the daughter of the late Laura Hutcherson and Bonnie Sims. She was raised by Nora and Gus Dickens. Betty was preceded in death by three of her siblings, William and Melvin Simms and Richard Hutcherson.
Betty Jean graduated in 1965 from German Township HS in McClellandtown, PA., and went on to attend Robert Morris Business School in Pittsburgh, PA. After graduating from Robert Morris Business School, Betty Jean moved to Washington, DC and thereby began her long career as a Federal Government Employee.
In the late 1990’s Betty Jean was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), but being the determined person that she was, she continued to work and never stopped doing the things she loved and enjoyed most which was traveling, going to stage plays, keeping up with the business of her family members, and enjoying a good piece of “fried fish”.
She did, however, decide to join the “Elite Retired” group and retired in April 2010 from the Department of Justice. Now, she had more time to make new friends at the Chestnut Oaks Adult Living Community and more time to keep up with the business of her family members.
Through all of her health challenges, Betty Jean’s faith never wavered, she believed in the saving and healing grace of God. One of her favorite scriptures was Hebrews 11: 1-6.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two brothers, Joe B. Simms (Felicia), and Larry Hutcherson; a special and caring lifelong friend, Rebecca Wiley (Becky); nieces: Sherri Wells-Miller, Karen Wells-McGregory, Teryce Simms, Keyarra “Tudy” Clarett, Aishia P. Simms, nephews: Craig Parham, Christian Canada, Godson: Andrew Wiley, and a host of other relatives and friends.
