Betty Jean Buske was born on March 3, 1953, near Rolfe, Iowa, the daughter of William A. and Adeline E. (Engel) Buske. She graduated from Rolfe High School in 1971, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa. She taught K-12 art class in central and northeast Iowa. In 1986 she was united in marriage with Gary Pillman. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Sarah (Derek) Amundson of Raleigh, NC and Derek (Mary) Pillman of Tuscon, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Dwayne.
