Betty Jane Spradlin, age 91, of DeMotte passed away at Southlake Methodist Hospital of Merrillville on January 22, 2018.
She was born July 19, 1926 in Hammond, IN to John K. and Julia (Hudak) Merneck, both deceased. On November 12, 1975 Betty married the love of her life, Donald R Spradlin and he survives. Betty was a graduate of the Indianapolis Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1947. She worked as a RN at St Catherin’s and at St Margaret’s Hospitals and for 12 years in Orthopedic Surgery. Betty was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, NWI Nurses Association, St Cecilia Choir, St Cecilia Ladies Sodality, United States Army Nurse Cadet Corps and did a lot of volunteer work for different agencies. Betty’s passion was special needs children which she served as the head nurse for the Lake County Association of Special Needs for 15 years. She knitted continuously for needy children Betty is survived her husband, Donald and special nieces, Peggy, Kim and Kathy; brother, Adrian (Linda) Merneck of Ohio and a sister-in-law, Janet Merneck of FL.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents John K. and Julia (Hudak) Merneck: step father, J. T. Cook and a brother John.
