Betty Jane (Mennen) Pickering, 99, was born, April 5, 1923, to Floyd and Bonnie (Rector) Mennen. With the exception of a brief sojourn after retirement to Mountain Home, Arkansas, she lived most of her life in and around Lafayette, Indiana. She married William (Bill) Pickering in 1945 at Grace United Methodist Church in Lafayette and they had five children together. She graduated from Klondike High School, where she and Bill met. She was a graduate of Lafayette Home Hospital School of Nursing. Being a wife, mother, and nurse were the benchmarks of her life.

Betty was a collector of miniatures and acquired an extensive collection of thimbles. A lover of reading, she could make short work of a crossword puzzle.  She was a fan of (among other things) the Chicago Cubs and of Elvis.

Betty died on Monday, June 13, 2022, in the Health Care facility at Wesley Manor in Frankfort, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Pickering, and her son, Ronald Pickering.

Betty is survived by her children: Richard (Sally) Pickering, Mark (Pam) Pickering. Barbara (John) Benefiel, and Bruce (Lori) Pickering; her grandchildren: Stace (Mandy) Pickering, Jennifer Miller, Alison Pardon, John (Christy) Pickering, Aaron (Brittany) Anderson, Kathryn (Mike) Stephenson and Ciara Pickering; her great-grandchildren: Jacob, Ethan and Emily Pickering.
