Betty McCord Spaulding was born February 19, 1927, in Rush County, near the community of Moscow, and has been a lifelong Madison County resident.
She attended Perkinsville Grade School, Lapel High School, and graduated from Anderson High School. As a young girl, she worked at the Paramount Theater, Rivera Theater, McCroy’s five and dime store, National Tile, and retired from Delco Remy in 1988 with 37 and a half years of service. She was a wonderful cook, an impeccable landscaper, and loved her family gatherings more than anything.
She is survived by her two sons, Steven E. Spaulding of Anderson, and Ricky J. (Bobbie) Spaulding of Anderson; three grandchildren, Brian and Anne Reed of Redmond, Washington; Jeff Reed of Anderson, Melissa and Shannon Owen of Douglasville, Ga; six great-grandchildren, Connor and Adele Reed of Redmond Washington, Travis Reed of Anderson, Xander, and Liam Owen of Douglasville, GA.; and nieces, Roberta Wilson and Cheryl Young.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary M. (Peck) McCord and Virgil O. McCord; two sisters, Lorna M. Wilson, and Rowena Flowers; brothers, Robert E. McCord and Thelbert E. McCord; daughter, Joy D. Reed; son-in-law, Tony Reed; great-granddaughter, Jillian Reed; and niece, Carol McCord.
