FREEMAN, Mrs. Betty Jane, Kalamazoo, MI. Died Wednesday morning February 16, 2011. Betty Jane was born December 26, 1918 in Canton, Ohio, daughter of David and Grace Lowry. She was a Kalamazoo resident from 1949 until 2006, when she moved to Midland, MI to be near her daughter.
Betty Jane was a graduate of Bowling Green State University and held a variety of jobs, including French & Latin teacher, substitute librarian in the Kalamazoo Public Schools and community volunteer. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, John Dunning Guild, WMU Faculty Dames, Kalamazoo Newcomers Club and was a Girl Scout leader for many years.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, travelling and spent many winters in Myrtle Beach, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 54 years, Joe B. Freeman; and a brother, Dick Lowry. Betty Jane is survived by her daughter, Lorie Stephen Ermak of Midland, MI; and 2 grandchildren, Jeffrey Ermak of Kirkland, WA and Lisa Ermak of Holland, MI.
