Betty J. Osborne, 79, of 820 W. Colfax Ave., died at 4:05 p.m. Thursday (June 14, 2007) at Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born June 25, 1927, in Elkhart to William and Hazel (Loucks) Locke.

Mrs. Osborne is survived by one son, Mark Osborne of South Bend; one daughter, Jan (Tom) Kaade of South Bend; one brother, Dan (Jan) Artley of Goshen; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Osborne graduated from Elkhart High School and studied at the Art Institute in Chicago, Indiana University Extension School of Art in South Bend and Barn School of Painting in South Bend. She did commercial art for businesses in Chicago and Juhl Advertising Agency in Elkhart. She is the former owner of the Creative Art Studio, Lexington School of Art and Trojan Horse, all of Elkhart.

Mrs. Osborne’s artwork was exhibited in several juried shows, including the Notre Dame Arts and Hobby Show and the Biennial Art Exhibition Art Center, both in South Bend, the Dunes Arts Foundation regional show in Michigan City and the Fort Wayne Women’s Club, where she was awarded first place in oil still life. She was a member of and displayed work through Northern Indiana Artists Inc. in South Bend and the Elkhart Art League.

She retired from The Selmer Co. in Elkhart after 20 years.
