Betty Jane Burnette Nutt, 101, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Deerfield in Urbandale, IA.
Betty was born on June 30, 1920, in Emmetsburg, IA to Albert and Arabelle Gedge Burnette. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and Drake University.
On May 29, 1943, Betty married Virgil Nutt in Des Moines. While Virgil served in WWII, she worked as a secretary at Equitable Insurance Co. They celebrated their 69th anniversary shortly before he passed away in 2012.
Betty and Virgil traveled extensively all over the world and enjoyed entertaining. They loved to dance and took lessons for several years with good friends. She was a member of Heartland Presbyterian Church, Des Moines Golf & Country Club, Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, Chapter JM, P.E.O., an Antiquest group, and the West Des Moines Women’s Club. Betty also served on the board for the Blank Hospital Guild and was the volunteer coordinator for the snack shop and the gift shop for many years.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by daughters Nancy Farris of Carmel, IN and Cynthia/Craig Converse of Postville, IA; granddaughter Christina/Mitchell Schultz and great-grandson Hudson Schultz of Postville, IA.
