She died at 6:40 p.m., Saturday, Jan.
Born Aug. 24, 1921, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Richard A. and Helen J. Morris Grace. She was married Dec. 24, 1940, by the Rev. R. E.
Betty was a 1940 graduate of Logansport High School. She had been employed at the H.W. Gossard Company, Logansport Municipal Utilities and the Cass County License Bureau.
Betty was past president of the Business and Professional Women of Logansport.
A member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, Betty belonged to the Royal Center Chapter 375 and had been a member of the former Fidelity Chapter 58, where she was Past Matron. In 1987 she was Grand Page. She was the former Grand Representative to the Alberta Grand Chapter in Indiana. She had been past president of Eastern Star’s District 18 Association
A charter member of the Niddee Shrine Guild, Betty was Past Maharanee. Over the years she organized many events for the guild including several style shows.
Betty was also an advocate for special needs children, getting them to the camps and various functions throughout the years.
She was a clown with the ministerial association under the name of Klinker, participating in children’s functions, parades and other functions.
Betty had been active in the Cass County Republican Party for over 50 years and was a recipient of the party’s “Woman of the Year” award.
Surviving are two sons, James D. Ellars and his wife, Georgia, Indianapolis, and Steven Ellars, Logansport; two grandchildren and their spouses, Michelle and Dr. Joe Stevens, Nappanee, and Kyle and Amy Ellars, Indianapolis; five great-grandchildren, Shelby Strauss, Sydney and Anna Stevens, all of Nappanee, and Zoe and Tommy Ellars, Indianapolis; two stepgranddaughters, Kristin Eneix and Jennifer Capps and her husband, Tony, all of Indianapolis; one stepgreat-granddaughter, Jessica Capps, Indianapolis; three sisters, Dolores Bonnell and her husband, Donald, Jr., Kewanna, Barbara Lewis and her husband, Joseph, Kokomo, and Rosemary Vernon, Logansport; one brother, Donald R. Grace, Logansport; five nieces, Vicki Byrd and her husband Bill, Logansport, Karen Hargrove and her husband, David, Clarksville, Tenn., Harriet Middough and her husband Doug, Gold Canyon, Ariz., Donna Mikesell and her husband, Jim, Delphi, and Mary Lou Youde and her husband, David, Phoenix, Ariz.; seven nephews, Pastor Bruce Vernon and his wife, Andrea, Larry Vernon and his wife, Lori, and Jon Vernon and his wife, Diann, all of Logansport, Randy Lewis and his wife, Marsha, Indianapolis, Jeffrey Lewis and his wife, Sherry, Kokomo, Steven Lewis, Interlochin, Fla., and Ted Lewis, Corpus Christi, Texas.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Grace and Ralph Grace; one brother-in-law, John E. Vernon Sr.; and one nephew, John E. Vernon Jr.
