Went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday Afternoon, September 13, 2022. Betty was born January 28, 1931, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Peter and Effie (Esman) Newhouse. Betty Graduated from Portage Public Schools and then drove bus for the same school for 17 years. Prior to her retirement, Betty was a tour guide for the Upjohn Company.
She also played the organ for 1st Reformed of Portage and Prairie Edge CRC. Betty and John enjoyed camping with their children, spending winters, in Florida and traveling, including their many trips to Alaska. She was an amazing cook, loving to serve family and friends. Her smile and little wave will be missed at Park Village Pines. Her family is thankful for each person who lovingly cared for her until Jesus called her home.
On March 16, 1951, Betty was united in marriage to her loving husband, John Alphenaar, who preceded her in death on April 20, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Forssell, brothers, John, Charles, Vernon, Amos and sister Henrietta.
She is survived by her sons, Stan (Julie) Alphenaar, Dan (Molly) Alphenaar; son-in-law, Gunnar; 9 beloved grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; brother and sister, Louis (Joann) Newhouse, Elnora (Fred) Alphenaar; in-laws, Harold (Joyce) Alphenaar, Jane Newhouse, and many nieces and nephews.
