Betty Jeanne Engle (nee Gachos), age 92, late of Geneva, Ohio and formerly of Hammond, Indiana, passed away December 1, 2020.
Dearest wife of the late Benjamin Engle. Devoted mother of Mary Engle and Carol (Paul) Burns. Cherished grandmother of Michael, Helen and Ben. Fond aunt of several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Mary and Frank, sisters Mary, Ann, Julia, Helen and Sue and brothers George and William.
Betty enjoyed participating in and watching sports and was a die-hard Cub fan. She was active in many bowling leagues and received the WBA Double I Secretarial award of excellence for 1997-1998. She also liked working crossword puzzles, going to the casinos, tending to her garden and spending time with family and friends.
Betty attended church regularly and was proud of her Byzantine Catholic faith, volunteered with the Ladies Guild, typed church bulletins and read the word at the Liturgy. She was a member and officer of GCU District 9.
Betty put her family first and was there for everyone. She was inspiring and kept going through rough times especially when her illness set in. She was kind, compassionate and uplifting. We will miss her terribly but are grateful for the time we had with her as Mother, Grandmother and dear friend.
