Betty Hamby Loftin, age 76, of Newnan, passed gently into the presence of her Heavenly Father on December 31, 2011. A native of Coweta County, she was born March 9, 1935 and was the daughter of the late William Reginald Hamby, Sr. and Opal Fuller Hamby. From her early years as a part of a large and outgoing family, she found those values that would shape her own life. She dedicated the next 76 years in providing a nurturing home to not only her own family, but the extended families that would include generations of the Hamby family.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Leo Dell Loftin. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Hamby. Her home was open to all and she was cherished by her nieces and nephews who referred to her as “Aunt Jo”. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Tim Loftin and his wife Pat of Sanford, FL, Glenn Loftin of Asheville, NC and Theresa Davis and her husband Tim of Carrollton. Her grandchildren are Stephanie Loftin, Elizabeth Davis Thornton and husband Brad, Caroline Davis, Crystal Loftin, Sarah Loftin. Her great grandchildren are Phillip Thornton, Tucker Thornton and Cole Thornton. Also surviving are her sisters Jane Bass and Loretta Hamby.
