Betty Cole, age 88, of Oskaloosa, formerly of Algona, died on Thursday September 20, 2012 at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Betty was born and raised near Rolfe, Iowa. She married the love of her life, Donald Cole, on December 13, 1941, in Kahoka, Missouri. They were married for 63 years before Don passed away in 2004. Betty had a big green thumb and loved her flowers. She also spent a lot of time sewing different things. She and Don were blessed with two daughters and raised them in Whittemore, Iowa. In 1969, Don and Betty moved to Colo, Iowa, and then on to Manley, Iowa, where they were custodians at the Manley High School. In 1986, they retired and in 1994 moved to Algona to be closer to their daughter. Health problems made it difficult for Betty to get around later in life and in 2007, she moved into the Algona Manor. In 2009, she moved with family to the North Mahaska Care Center, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She remained there until she suffered a stroke in early September 2012 when she entered the Hospice House.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Linda (Jim) Bradford, Newton, Iowa; two grandchildren, Tim (Diana) Strayer, Newton, Iowa; Shelly (Wade) Jager, Eddyville, Iowa; five great grandchildren, Cassie and Jake Strayer, Devin, Abby and Sadie Jager and one sister, Berniece Wolcott, Bradgate, Iowa. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Irma and Henry Dall; husband, Donald; daughter, Judy Harmon; brother, Robert Dall; sisters, Naomi Hahn and Mary Hansen.
