Betty Anderson, age 89 of Norwalk formerly of Stratford, Laurens, Pocahontas, Spencer and Humboldt passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at her home. Betty Rose Anderson, the daughter of Floyd and Eva (Griffith, Caruth) Martin, was born on May 10, 1932 in Lamoni, Iowa. She graduated from Stratford High School on May 19, 1950. On September 2, 1950 Betty was united in marriage to George Martin Anderson. The couple were blessed with five children: Sandra, Sharon, Rebecca, Bonnie and George. While living in Laurens Betty worked for Anne at Stoner’s Cafe, Upper Des Moines Opportunity as a Head Start teacher and Laurens Community School as a library and teachers aide. Most importantly she was a devoted homemaker to her husband and five children. Betty was a fun loving person with many friends and a lot of hugs to share! She loved fishing, bowling with her Pocahontas Team Fashion Touch, dancing at the Bohemian Hall, attending the Clay County Fair, and Betty Boop. Being a 3 time cancer survivor she loved attending Relays for Life in Spencer and Humboldt. Left to cherish Betty’s memories are her children: Sandra Skaggs of Earlham, Sharon (Steve) Vote of Glendale, AZ, Rebecca (Rollie) Jensen of Humboldt, Bonnie (Rich) Wichman of Norwalk and George (Tonja) Anderson of Pocahontas; Grandchildren: Chris (Michelle) Skaggs of Adel, Staci (Gary) Schaum of Glendale, AZ, Scott (Alison) Vote of Chandler, AZ, Malinda Norris of Scottsdale, AZ, Machelle Norris of Peoria, AZ, Adam (Nicole) Wichman of Norwalk, Tiffanie Wichman of Sioux City and Emma, Olivia and Julia Anderson of Pocahontas; Great Grandchildren: Cheyanne and Bella Skaggs of Adel, Alex Schaum of Minot, ND, Alyssa Schaum of Glendale, AZ, Bryton, Tayleigh and Jessalyn Vote of Chandler, AZ and Lily, Sophie and Reese of Norwalk. Sister in Law; Sandra Martin, Round Rock, TX and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Eva, husband George in 1985, brothers Roy and Cecil Martin and sister, Sharon (Martin) Hoshaw. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society in Betty’s honor.
