Bettie Snow, 91, received her sparkling angel wings on January 22, 2022 transitioning into Heaven into the presence of the Lord with her loving family by her side as she took her last breath.
Born on June 19, 1930 in Southern, New Jersey, she was a child of the depression and World War II. As such, she embraced the Queen’s slogan “keep calm and carry on” which developed into a lifetime of faith, family and tradition.
After graduating from secretarial school, Bettie married and began her adult life in San Diego, California. In 1955, with a spirit of adventure, the young couple moved to Brevard County, Florida to experience the new world of rocket launches. Exciting jobs at the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC), Patrick Air Force Base, provided employment and friends.
By the early 1960’s, a house was built in Cape Canaveral, FL adjacent to the beach, and Bettie began raising her family. A dedicated mother first and foremost, she treasured her children. Grateful for the blessing of healthy babies, she was a block captain for the March of Dimes for many years. She was the quintessential homemaker and mom of the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Over the years she created many traditions for her close-knit family and was the consummate hostess. Her annual Christmas open house was epic in the neighborhood. She loved to cook, read, dance and do a myriad of crafts. She disliked broccoli. Her monthly Pokeno game (a combination of poker and bingo) with her girlfriends was full of fun and spirited competition. Bettie was a huge sports fan, especially Miami Dolphins football. She rarely missed the grandkids sporting events. Bettie never met a dog she didn’t like.
With a keen mind and quick wit, she watched Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune nightly, answering many questions before the contestant. Bettie embraced the computer age. With her computer and iPad, she enjoyed playing games, keeping in touch with family and friends and learning new things—even in her 90’s.
After living beachside for more than 50 years, Bettie retired to the Viera East golf community of BlackHeath to be near her daughters. She taught her daughters how to laugh and love, how to be kind and to take pride in work done well. She taught to respect others and to thank God for their blessings. Above all, she showed her family how one ages gracefully and dies with dignity. Bettie is survived by her loving husband, 3 daughters, 3 grandkids, and extended family.
