Mrs. Campbell died Friday, May 7, 2021 at  Brookdale Western Hills Senior Assisted Living Center in Temple, after several health issues, surrounded by people who cared about her.

Mrs. Campbell was born March 29, 1929, in Opelika, Alabama, the daughter of James Isaiah Heath and Idabelle (McConnell) Heath.  She was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Temple, and a member of the Dawson Sunday School Class before she was no longer able to attend. She was a member of the American Legion Post 0133 in Temple.

Most of her life was spent as a mother and homemaker, but as her children grew up, she became a foster parent and foster parent trainer in Bell County for more than 20 years. Still later in life she was proud to work at the Temple Police Department, and especially enjoyed “ride alongs.” Mrs. Campbell enjoyed gardening and traveling (especially cruises and going to casinos) with her friends. One of her common sayings was “I wonder how many cruises Hattie, Lorraine and I would have been on by now?” However, one of her greatest joys was being “Granny” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In 2018, Mrs. Campbell participated in the first Texas Women’s Honor Flight to Washington D.C. and only the second women’s flight in the country. The trip to view the national’s memorials and tributes to American service men and women was a highlight, especially the Women in Military Service for America Memorial and Arlington Cemetery.

Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother Bill, her brother Charles, her sisters Rubilee and Sara, an infant granddaughter, Abbey Tensley McLemore (October 6, 1983) and one grandson, James A Stewart IV (March 12, 2008).

Survivors include her son James Campbell of Temple; four daughters, Rebecca Mullan (James) of Austin, Patricia Posvar (Michael) of Salado, Kay Stewart (Jim) of Temple and Tracy Scott (Rhett) of Brandon, Florida; seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
