Services for Ms.
On May 26, 1940, Bettie Gertrude Gill was the third child of the six children born to Mr. Stiner and Mrs. Hallie Gill.
Bettie lived all her eighty-two years in Hartselle, AL. She attended Morgan County Training School. Growing up, Bettie was quiet; some would say almost shy, that is until you made her mad!
Bettie accepted Christ as her personal savior as a young girl at Mt.
Van, Squirt and Greg grew up in a house full of love and good cooking. All the children in the community loved to come home with either one of them as well. They knew “Bet-Bet” (as they fondly called her), would feed them as well. That was two of her favorite things, children and cooking, because Bettie was known for her good cooking. At church she always provided food in the kitchen. The request for her cakes were too numerous to count. Her turnip greens were always the first thing to go. She specialized in Pear Relish; she could not be beat on that dish.
On Saturday, August 6, 2022, Bettie walked up the king’s highway and put her hand in her maker’s hand. There she found peace.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Stiner and Hallie Gill; four siblings, Peggy Gill, Richard Gill, James Gill and David Gill;
She leaves to cherish her memory: her faithful and dedicated daughter, Clara (Johnny) Horn; a loving son, Greg Gill; two loving grandsons, Montez (Susan) Jackson-Gill, Justin Horn; one granddaughter, Shanice “Missy” Johnson; two great grandchildren, Ashonti Johnson and Aubre’ Asia Mitchell; a caring sister, Mary (Charles) Cooper; three close cousins, Elmira Orr, Edith Priest and Cindy Luckett, and a host of other relatives and many friends.
