Bette leaves behind a brother, Dan Shea of Niantic, a sister, Meg Turpin of Plainfield, a niece and numerous nephews.
Bette loved to travel having been nearly everywhere, and was ever a tough one to tie down in one place. Ever active, she danced like no one was watching. She had many loves and stayed very active in those loves, some include 1969 – 71 Hartford Ballet, 1960 – 71 Ballroom and children’s dance instructor, Dancemaster of America, National Association of Dance and affiliated artists, Hartford Ballet, Private Dance lessons in Hartford, New York and Boston. 1992 – 2002 Bette was involved with the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, the Bill Library – children’s dance program. 1990 – 1993 Ballroom dance instructor, Adult Ed., Norwich Arts Council. Adventures in Lifelong learning. She also volunteered at Veteran’s School 3rd grade class reading to the children and teaching them dance. Bette worked at the Norwich State Hospital until her retiring in 1992. Being a volunteer is definitely something she loved.
In her memory remember,
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we’re here we should dance.
