Bette Rae (Henson) Prouty, 80, beloved wife of Bruce Prouty, passed away on July 2, 2020 in Plymouth, Massachussetts. Born in Keene, New Hampshire, on February 3, 1940 to Raymond and Arline Henson, she lived in Avon, Connecticut, for many years before moving with her husband to Wilmington, North Carolina, in 1999 and then to Plymouth in 2013.Bette lived life to the fullest up until her last weeks. In spite of illness, she never gave up an opportunity to spend time with family and friends, or to embark on new adventures. She and Bruce visited 54 countries during their 31 happy years of marriage. A Master Gardener, she surrounded her courtyard terrace where we often spent time together with bright, beautiful flowers and plants. She was also an accomplished knitter, creating scarves, sweaters and blankets her family will cherish, as well as goods for charities. She loved the ocean, hummingbirds, golden retrievers, her beta fish, reading, and country music. She was dedicated to her children and grandchildren and had tears in her eyes at every parting. After raising her family in Avon, Connecticut, she earned a Masters in Social Work at the University of Connecticut. She enjoyed working with the elderly and served them in her new career as a social worker for 10 years. After retirement she continued working as a hospital volunteer. Her kindness and devotion brought happiness and reassurance to her clients during difficult times. She is survived by her husband Bruce; her children and their spouses, Kellie Bourque (Hubert Gentou), Kevin Bourque (Amy), Kyle Bourque (Christine); her stepchildren Bruce M. Prouty II (Katherine) and Todd Prouty (Sally); her sister Nancy (Henson) Hanelius and brother-in-law Raymond Hanelius; 12 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; former spouse Philip Bourque; and extended family and friends. We will all miss her very much and keep her in our hearts.
