Bette leaves behind four children:  Sons, Douglas (Patricia) Bright and Dan (Julie) Bright; step-daughters, Kelley Carter and Karin (John) Heckathorn.  She has four grandchildren, Dana (Brett) Owens, Joey Knowles, Carter Heckathorn, and Christian Heckathorn.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Norman Lee and Marguerite Davis and husband, Richard L. Carter, whom she was married to for 40 years.

Bette attended Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Missouri.

In her own words, taken from the preface of her published book, “Going It Alone”; “In 1971 I began reading the Book of Philippians.  I read it every night for about two years.  As you can imagine, we became familiar friends.  I was recently divorced, new to the secular business world (after eighteen years of ministerial life), raising two sons as a single parent, and burdened with debt.  I had a small rented home and large payments on an old Barracuda.  During some very difficult years I learned the resources found in the Book of Philippians.  The secret of going it alone is that you’re not alone!”

She will be remembered as a beautiful, vivacious mother, friend, and a woman of God. Her love for God compelled her every day as she sought to introduce others to her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
