Bette Louise Henderson, 94, of Centralia, passed away on April 20, 2018, at her home in Centralia. She was born January 2, 1924, in Centralia, the daughter of William and Helen (Maddox) Pfeffer.
She married John Duguid Henderson on November 7, 1948, who preceded her in death on July 5, 2005. Bette is survived by her son Craig Henderson of Centralia, daughter Sarah Sharp of Centralia, granddaughter Samantha Sharp of Centralia, sister Mary Bude of Centralia, nieces: Elizabeth Densmore and Beverly Wehking, and nephews: Jimmy and Michael Henderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and an infant son: Gregory Henderson in 1956. Bette was a member of the First United Methodist Church. During her younger years, she worked with her father at the Pfeffer Feed and Seed company on N. Oak St. in Centralia as well as the Centralia Township Assessor’s office. She was an avid Cardinal fan and a supporter of the Humane Society. She hosted many card clubs and neighborhood get-togethers.
Her senior year of high school was marked by two big events: the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the Centralia High School basketball team winning the Illinois state basketball tournament. In grade school at the old Central School, she was good friends and classmates with Centralia basketball legend Dike Eddleman. She often helped tutor him in his studies and homework.
