Bette L. Plunkett, 85 of Virginia, IL died Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

She was born December 22, 1931 in Beardstown, IL, the daughter of Henry Paul and Ollie Brooks Baehr. She married Guy William “Bill” Plunkett Jr. on April 18, 1953 at St. Luke Church in Virginia and he preceded her in death on January 1, 2010.

She is survived by three children, Micki Wilson (friend, Travis Cox) of Virginia, Mike Plunkett (wife, Cheryl) of Springfield, and Mark Plunkett (wife, Valerie) of Petersburg; seven grandchildren, Bradley Wilson (wife, Emily) of Athens, Brian Wilson (wife, Ngoc) of Winter Park, FL, Daniel Plunkett, David Plunkett, and Ashley Plunkett, all of Springfield, Samantha Whitehurst (husband, Matt) of Petersburg, and Shelby Plunkett of Santa Monica, CA; four great grandchildren, Marlie Nicole Whitehurst, Dayton Steven Whitehurst, Hazel Mae Whitehurst, and Bryce Linh Wilson; several nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Bob Plunkett (wife, Bev) of Virginia.

She was preceded in death by two half brothers, Harold and Clyde Bell; a half sister, Thelma “Sissie” Case; and two sisters-in-law, Wilma Bast and Margaret Blakeman.

Bette was a graduate of Beardstown High School and was employed many years as a meat cutter for McCausland’s IGA in Virginia. She was a member of St. Luke Parish in Virginia.

A devoted wife and mother, Bette enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and doting over her great grandchildren. She loved to cook for her family and friends and spend time crappie fishing.
