Emma Beth Jeffery, the daughter of Vera (Mendenhall) and Jacob McDonnel, was born July 4, 1925 at Hemet, California. She departed this life surrounded by her family on Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 92 years, 5 months and 11 days.
Beth moved with her family as a young girl to Jewell County, Kansas. She received her formal education attending the Cyclone rural school, the Northbranch Academy and graduated with a certificate in normal training from the Burr Oak High School with the class of 1943. Beth taught country school for one year. She was united in marriage with Lyle Burdette Jeffery on March 8, 1946 at Northbranch. This union was blessed with three children. Beth and Lyle farmed near Northbranch until 1957, when they moved to Beth’s home place near Burr Oak. In 1978, they moved from the farm to a home in town. Lyle preceded her in death on June 5, 1983. Beth remained in her home until 1999, when she moved to Superior to live.
Beth worked as both a nurse’s aid and a nurse for sixteen years with the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud and then with the Jewell County Hospital in Mankato, retiring in 1983. In her retirement years she enjoyed many travels around the United States as well as a number of foreign countries. She was a member of the Northbranch Friends Church, the church ladies group and the Northbranch Saddle Club. Her hobbies included antiquing, attending area auctions, quilting and playing a game of dominos with family and friends. Her greatest love and enthusiasm in life was for her family and she especially cherished time spent with her grandkids and great grandkids. Beth’s personality was pervaded by her genuine warmth and concern for others and her love for the Lord, her family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Lyle.
