Bessie Mae Key Mason was born November 8, 1942 to the late Eddie and the late Lou Ella Key in Lawrence County.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jimmy (Man) Mason, Jr and two brothers, Charlie Key and Willie Lee.
Bessie was employed as a housekeeper for many years before her health failed. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and later joined Temple Apostolic Church under Pastor Dr. E. J. Mason, where she served faithfully until her health failed.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Leslie G. Key; two daughters, Louise (James) Smith Jr. and Janease (Bobby) Elliott her caregiver, all of Decatur; one step-daughter, Virginia Lyles from Cleveland, OH; a special daughter, Cynthia (Patrick) Malone; six grandchildren, Leslie (Nikki) Mason, Corey (Nikki) Griffin, Pamela (David) Clopton, Lesonya Mason, Randy Griffin, Shanice Elliott, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren all of Decatur; one brother, Robert (Dora) Key of Decatur; six sisters-in-law, Clara Mason, Mary Lucas, both of Decatur, Dr. Ernestine Mason of Athens, AL, Areitha Stone, Anna Jane both of Tennessee; two brothers-in-law, Cleveland Mason, Ernest Mason both of Decatur; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
